A Poweruser ProductI purchased this MFC-Laser Printer to replace an older model approximately 10 years its junior. Well worth the money in features, and options. Now for the Pros & Cons.
(Pros) - Supports Duplex Printing, Color, All-In-One, Great for Powerusers & Small Business. (Cons) - Not for the faint of Heart, Hefty & Heavy, Little Monster needs it's own personal space. However, would definitely recommend to others. Extremely Satisfied with Purchase...Price...and Performance. Nice Touch-Screen Feature, Not suitable for Confined Spaces or Small Children. Toner Cartridges are reasonably priced compared to similar products, and they don't get "Clogged or Dry-Out" like Inkjets. Refills may seem a little expensive in comparison to Food Coloring Inkjets! But the Lifespan/Shelflife of a Toner Cartridge is far Superior in Longevity, and only Slightly Lacking in its Luster.*** Just Buy It Already, You need to Pay to Play. Besides, Your tired of Reading Reviews by now anyway *** Trust Me on this one, Then jump on the Bandwagon and Sing with the rest of us. "Bless You BROTHER" :)
Corporate Use Beware, Cannot use WAN and LAN at same time, Software BloatGoing by reviews on Amazon and biting my lip due to past issues with Brother products (going back 15 years) I decided to give Brother another try.
1) You CANNOT use the Wireless and Ethernet Wired connection at the same time, why? I'm baffled.
2) Had issues with the Wireless connection dropping on day two of use, could not ping device even though it showed connected to the wireless network, rebooted printer, triple checked settings and wireless connectivity, finally reverted to the wired connection whereby i discovered you cannot have both interfaces up at the same time, you are forced to choose one or the other.
3) Full software install takes over 10-15 minutes, full of bloatware and extra software - just give me the driver!
4) Error codes received after setting up the scan to email function didn't match anything in the manual and were extremely misleading, "poor line condition / out of memory", "registration error".
Ugh
poor experienceFirst Amazon sent me two, how that happened I don't know and amazon doesn't know. I refused to take delivery of the second one and it went back to Amazon. The one I accepted was not functioning. It would only make grinding noises and the paper jammed every time. The plastic is very very cheap on this machine. Before this unit I had the Mfc-9840CDW and this machine is a 5 star machine. It went well over 125,000 pages before it started to die.
The most disappointing part of the whole experience was Amazon. I ordered the 4 toners and printer at the same time. Since the machine was not working I wanted to return everything and get another Mfc9840CDW. Seems simple but they would not waive any of the return charges for the toners (never opened or used)Then they gave me two different return tags, one for fed ex (one toner) and one for ups (three toners), so I had to drive to two different locations to return a single order.Very poor customer support.
Paper CurlThis is a very versatile, very fast printer. Print speed, print quality, scanning, ease of set up, etc. are all excellent. The printer's main problem is paper curl. I spent a lot of time reading reviews for this printer on not only Amazon but other forums as well. While a few people mentioned this problem most people did not. How someone could review this printer and not mention paper curl is beyond me. This printer has a design flaw that Brother is fully aware of. A weak explanation for paper curl is right in the FAQ section of their web site. My last printer which had very similar specifications, an Epson CX11NF, printed with NO paper curl whatsoever. It was a terrific printer that I would have bought again but it is no longer made. In summary if you don't mind paper curl (each end of a printed paper is a full one inch off the table) than buy this printer. It does everything else as advertised.
Brother CDW 9970 Printer/Coper/FAX/ScannerThis is the 2nd Brother 9970 model that I purchased this year. THATS A GOOD THING!
I purchased the first one a month or so before opening a new office but we liked it so much at home we couldn't part with. So I kept the first one at home and purchased a second one for the office. I think that is as good an endorsement one can give.
Great professional level features for homeWhen my HP 2600N needed a new toner I knew it was time to look for something better. I had been dealing with a standalone color laser and a HP Inkjet all in one long enough, I now wanted to combine all that into one product. This beast prints fast, can duplex scan and print, can scan PDFs directly to a network share, and more. The colors and quality are similar to the HP 2600N. It's not photo level but for my uses it's fine. I run several Mac's with OSX Lion as well as Windows 7 machines and this machine was easy to setup and use with both OSes. My only complaint is that every time this thing warms up to print the UPS's in my computer room trip on signaling a brown out. I can't comment on the fax usage, since I don't have a landline. The touchscreen makes it incredibly easy to use, but another complaint I have is that this thing will too often print things to display status. For example, when I incorrectly entered my wireless LAN password and it failed to connect the first time, it displayed error on the touchscreen and then proceeded to print a page with a bunch of info about how it couldn't connect. I don't really need to waste toner or paper to tell me it had a problem when I have a touchscreen display. This is likely a move to share software/parts with the non-touchscreen version, but it's lame.
Exceptional MachineGranted, my expectations for an "all in one" device is that one should expect to get adequate results on most functions the machine performs in exchange for the convenience of "all in one". After using this machine for over a month, I can say with confidence that the high speed color duplex printing, wireless scanning, wireless faxing and integration with my laptop, I-pad and even my DroidX smart phone has been nothing short of impressive. This unit performs flawlessly and we will be purchasing more of them for our satelite offices.
Solid Printer for the moneyThis multifunction printer makes decent prints and is easy to use and set up. Prints are difficult to extract from the printout tray. I have owned this product for one month.
Great value very niceArrived in 24 hours after ordering, securely packaged..
Setup took all of 20 minutes and we were up and printing on my home wireless network from multiple computers.
Comes with everything you need, no extra cables to buy. The starter print toner drums probably last only a short time, we will see.
Good well printed instructions, included software works well on both Mac and pc.
Printed several pictures for multiple computers, very nice quality.
This one is a keeper
Well worth the money.
Caution: this is a BIG yatsu. In military parlance, this is a crew served weapon. Clear some space.
Nearly professional printerThis was a good value for the money. It is still new, so I can't speak to reliability yet and we have not used customer support. So far it has been excellent!
