Good product some challengesInstructions for setting up a network for more than one computer was a challenge. Brother technical support was excellent!!!
Best of the bestAbsolutely load as fair a features in a printer is concerned. I did not find it to be particularly fast color printing but quality was nice. Maybe on photo paper the quality may be much nicer. Personally, the nicest touch is there is an iPhone app that allows jpeg and pdf printing. It works extremely well and is very nice to grab attachments and print them without having to turn on the pc.
This printer is monsterous for a soho printer, imo. I believe it weights around 30 pounds and requires a dedicated area with about a foot clearance from a wall for the duplex feature to work. Also, the printer and scanner are fairly loud. Nothing that would cause distractions but much louder than the previous two Brother MFCs I've owned.
I picked this up at over $200 of retail so it was a deal I would not have passed up in a million years. Each Brother printer I've own has performed flawlessly for long periods and I hope this one does the same. This may end up being the last printer I will buy during this decade. We'll see.
Brother Ledger-Printing ModelsI am looking at MFC-6890 CDW but it was a discontinued model. The MFC J6910 is capable of DUPLEX copying but not the MFC J6710. Both multi-function and can print Ledger-size paper.
Great for 11x17 Color PrintsI bought this because I need to be able to produce color 11x17 drawings for my land surveying business. It was recommended by another surveyor. Even thought it's slower than my copies or a laser printer, it's very useful as a home backup. I also needed the scanning capabilities. I usually print out the survey and then sign it, then scan to PDF for delivery to my clients. It works great for that.
One Very Good Alll-In-OneThe 11x17 scanner is the main reason I bought this machine. You just cannot find this platform size for the price. It is fast and the scan quality is very good. The other features life FAX, print and copy and generous paper trays are icing on the cake. 11x17 photos are superb, even when their source is very lo-res. Brother support has been punctual, well trained and have solved my 'operator' trouble immediately...there has been no actual hardware issues. I am Very Satisfied with this product.
Excelent machineThe machine is very to use, a lot features and is handing paper up 11x17.
Have two trays to handing the paper, is making the job easy and faster.
Brother MFCJ6910DWOverall this is a very good printer. I was looking for a ledger size printer at a good cost and this fills the bill. The only reason I would not rate it a five is the quality of the color prints and copies. They are not as good as the HP unit I was using but for the savings I acheive on ink, the ledger size printing and copying, I'll put up with it. Mechanically, it works beautifully.
Disappointed with BrotherMakes too much noise while printing or copying. The scanning function sucks. Setting up the fax is too cumbersome, suddenly it stopped giving me the fax confirmation printout. This is my 3rd Brother, time to move to another brand next time around. As of December 2012 the automatic paper feeder eats my fax and copies. Called Brother but no response.
Half-there. Half-good. Half-done.Caution! Although Brother claims they support Linux, they only support linux from some remote time in the past, with their "i386" drivers. The clue is, the 386 was a processor from the previous century. Mind, they are careful to provide 64-bit support for Windows, and even for scanning under Linux. But alas, HALF DONE, they forgot to do the printer.
Considering how expensive this machine is, their attitude of "If you request it, maybe in the future we'll provide it" is nonsense. Expensive paperweight.
To be fair, the standard black-ink, plain-paper printing isn't that good anyway.
Unique PrinterThis is the second Brother multi-function printer I have owned. The old one worked perfectly for several years.
When I found out that Brother was offering this new MF Printer with 11 x 17 output capability I was tempted to buy one because I frequently print/fax/copy floorplan drawings. Then when I found out that it was less than $300 on Amazon I purchased one immediately and gave my old MF Printer to a friend.
I have not been disappointed. It was easy to set up and working in a matter of minutes. The warm up cycle at the beginning of a print job is a little slow, but fairly typical for this type of machine. I haven't found any complaints with it. The ability to print/fax/copy/receive 11 x 17 drawings is awesome.
I fully expected that the downside to this printer would be the cost of the ink cartridges. Wrong again! Replacement Ink cartridges, in both black and color, were relatively cheap and available in XL and XXL capacities.
One last thing. This is not a photo printer. Color printing is sharp and acceptable for most business applications, but don't expect to print photos.
This is a great, inexpensive business printer. I have been using it daily for about 6 weeks without so much as a hiccup. I highly recommed it.
