great printer for schoolwork

I've had this printer for over 2 years now. I bought it to print out school materials and it does the job fantastically.

Setup is fairly simple. I recommend downloading latest firmware for the printer and latest driver as well. There's minor issue with Win7 in my experience where depending on driver type & how it was installed, duplex mode did not work properly sometimes. When printing only 1 sided page, it also does duplex, printing blank on other side. I'm still bit confused about it. This is the only minor issue I have but I manage to correct them every time.

Now the good part. Yes, it's noisy but that's expected. It makes up for it with the print quality & speed. I've not had older HP printer so I can't compare with older ones. My own rough print speed test resulted with approx ~20 ppm duplex at full speed and +30 ppm single sided printing.

Text comes out very crisp. I print out 9 lecture slides on one side and still clearly readable.

It has network connection which I connected to home network. I can print out from desktop, laptop, and any device connected to the network (wired or wirelessly).

You can access printer configuration through browser, which allows more control & configuration. Quiet mode is great when printing late at night which I do sometimes. It would've been better if I can set the day & time period of quiet printing mode so it automatically prints in quiet mode late at night.

Overall, great printer. Great quality, very fast printing, duplex is awesome, networking makes it much better. It was expensive but no regrets.

Reliable.

I use this printer at every one of our locations. The other printers purchased before would constantly have issues but every one of these guys works great. When our other printers inevitably break, this is the one I will replace them with.

We just love this printer... Wish we had ordered it a lot sooner. It has made our home life with 6 computers so much easier. The printer is fast and clean and SO simple... :-)

Great Printer, Great Price

Just what the doctor ordered! High quality laser printing and duplexing at a very reasonable price. Item arrived well packed and in perfect order and had it up and running with my mac in literally minutes. Couldn't be happier!

HP's work

Got two of these to dedicate to envelope printing in two different offices. Our server based software didn't like mixing report jobs with envelope print jobs. Easy network setup with front panel. Software tweak on server and we were ready to go.

cheap crap

this thing is crap, I guarantee that you will hate it! HP used to make great printers solid performers that mostly you could not wear out. Now they have sold their soul to china! Next time I will buy one made by japan.

Simply amazing

This printer is awesome. It's fast, high quality, reliable, small, and is everything that you would expect but much more. If you get the 2055dn, it's networkable. Setting up is extremely easy and printer sharing over a large network is as easy as plugging it in. I've had this printer for my lab for more than 6 months. I'm about to buy my second one and maybe a third for my home. I highly recommend this printer. This is definitely the best monochrome laser printer under $500 currently on the market. It's a must buy!

Fast Printing - easy Setup and Use

I replaced an older HP laser printer (HP2100) that I had networked via printer server hardware. As soon as I plugged it in to the network, it was ready to use. This is amazingly fast. The only negative thing I can say is that while printing it is REALLY noisy - but since it is so fast, it doesn't last long. My use is a home office (mainly manuals that that are several hundred pages), but I can see it being the main printer in a retail environment, with multiple users.

2055dn for the win

I'm very pleased with this printer. When purchasing a printer, anything besides HP makes me wary. This printer is one of HP's best, in my humble opinion.

The things I like about it are the noise control, as well as the speed of printing. It is quiet, just like a printer in 2010 should be. The speed is phenomenal--it takes roughly about 3-4 seconds to have the document I want processed and printed.

It's dependable. It's easy. You plug it in and go. Really, nothing is complicated with printers anymore, especially with Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Windows 7. These OS are so intuitive that this printer just meshes with it.

One of the major plus features to this printer is the fact that it can duplex print, or double-side print. Working for a university, being eco-friendly is not only preferred, but a must with how much printing we do. This printer is the solution.

You will not be disappointed with this 2055dn.
