Lexmark E120n
It's good for what it doesThis is one a many light-duty personal laser printers in the market. The main advantages of this printer is that it's the only one in its class that can handle heavy cover-stock (67 lb.) and one of a few that has a network interface. Print quality is good and the printing speed is also good. Setup was easy for Macintosh but a bit more confusing for Windows XP.
My main criticism is with the form factor. I know Lexmark wants to brag about how small the printer is, but the advertised depth dimension is meaningless unless you are willing to load paper in every time you use it and take out the remainder when you're finished. I'd like to see Lexmark size the unit with paper loaded and ready to go, the way almost everyone is going to use it. Also the starter cartridge seemed to run out more quickly and suddenly than expected. I would have no problem paying more to have a full cartridge ship with the unit rather than having to go out and get a replacement shortly thereafter.
nice printer for the priceWe were in the market for a network printer for our home wireless network. Found this Lexmark for just over $100, which I was a little skeptical about for a laser network printer. But after a month of use, we have been very pleased with it. It was relatively easy to set up and connected to our wireless router. Keep in mind this is not a wireless printer, but it can be connected to a wireless router which essentially makes wireless. No more dealing with file/printer sharing issues! The print quality is very good as you'd expect from a laser printer, and the printer itself is not too big. Lexmark email support has been surprisingly helpful(had questions about assigning static IP address). The only unknown at this point is the durability...time will tell. Would definitely recommend for an entry-level network printer.
Great printer for XP users, Vista driver and tech support is a disasterOne of best home printers I've ever had for XP. Very sharp printing, small foot print, easy to use. Network connection and administration very simple and straight forward.
I especially liked how easy it is to print double sided from an XP computer. It doesn't have a mechanical double side print capability, but from an XP computer you can specify double sided print and it will print the odd numbered pages, then pause for you to move the printed stack straight down from output to input bin, keeping the same orientation and sequencing to print the odd number pages. Unfortunately when I replaced one of my XP computers with a Vista model, the Vista drivers are unusable for double sided print. Selecting double sided print results in a cover page with incorrect instructions being printed for every job. To print double sided from Vista you have to waste a page on every job and the instructions provided are wrong. By trial and error I found you have to resequence and reorient the pages. I've corresponded by email and phone several times with tech support but they have limited English and I don't think they have access to or have ever even seen an actual E120 printer. They kept sending me instructions for the wrong model or telling me how to turn off the network banner page, which had never been turned on in the first place. I've given up on the tech support as useless and now just do any large job printing from an XP computer.
I don't recommend this printer because of the useless and incompetent tech support.
Lexmark E120 by mnQuality is good. Speed is very good. The paper feed is good. My last laser printer fed poorly allowing me to use only 20 lb paper. The envelope printing is excellent, no wrinkled envelopes. Paper tray is more than adequate ~ 1/2 ream.
Good printer. But....I bought this printer a few months ago to replace my Brother HL-1440 which broke after 2 years and the replacement part was greater than the cost of a new Lexmark. I really liked my Brother.
The Lexmark does several things well. It's fast. It works fine with Linux. It prints with very good quality. And it is NETWORK capable which is invaluable for the many houses and small offices with multiple PCs.
I do have one complaint in two parts. The printer does seem designed for light use. By that I mean that (A) the paper tray doesn't hold all that much paper and (B) the toner cartridge doesn't seem to last all that long.
Brother HL-1440 with fairly heavy printing lasted about a year for me on one cartridge.
Lexmark E120 with similar printing is beginning to show signs of running out after 3 months (with a replacement cartridge, not the original starter cartridge).
Still, a good printer for probably 90% of the people with normal printing needs. Next time, though, I'll probably spring for an hp. They really do seem to be the best.
WIRELESS SIMPLICITY AT ITS BESTIF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A WIRELESS BLACK&WHITE PRINTER WITH GREAT SPEED FOR HOME OR OFFICE , THEN THIS IS FOR YOU. OUTSTANDING PRODUCT, TONER CARTRIDGES ARE MUCH CHEAPER TO USE THAN THE INKJET VARIETY. LEXMARK TECH SUPPORT WALKED ME THROUGH THE SET UP.....PIECE OF CAKE!!
Outstanding printerI absolutely love this printer. It was easy to install and the print quality is razor sharp. This is definitely an excellent value for the money.
Good printerThis is a good printer for the price. Print quality for normal print jobs is good, it has a small footprint, easy to use interface via a web browser, a dust cover over the paper tray, and the network connection is a lot better than having to connect directly to the PC (although you can do that if you wish). If you have more than one computer on a network at home, I would recommend this printer. The only thing I don't like about it is that you cannot specify custom paper sizes. This means you have to do some trial and error and arithmatic in your application to get it to print the way you want on non-standard paper. For $125, I can live with that.
