Oct 15, 2009I read it`s a chip in the cartridge that tells the printer to keep telling you it`s empty even after being refilled, BUT that you CAN just keep ignoring the warning and using printer. I loved this printer and the programs that came with it, but since I purchased it at closed down Circuit City it was a nightmare trying to find the ink, now I see it`s available at Office Depot which is right up the street from me. I`ve read on the black ink #4 box the x2690 printer ink also fits in the following Lexmark printers x3690, x4690, z2390, z2490 and Lexmark site itself says x2600 and x2650. Office Depot has the best price.

Jul 13, 2009Totally ridiculous how fast this ink goes!!! And that one can only buy these small cartridges. I am going for a new printer. Bur the time I buy a few more cartridges I will have paid for my printer. And will research about the cartridges before I buy!!!Cathy

Jul 01, 2009Some refilling places say the Lexmark 18C1974 Black #4 cartridge is not refillable. Others say that resistors which control the inkjets burn out when it reaches empty which limits the number of refills. This is an unethical shenanigan by LEXMARK to compel the owner of the machine to buy rather expensive, short-life cartridges from Lexmark. There has to be a way to beat this execrable situation - a simple fill hole, a remanufactured cartridge with burn-proof resistors, or no resistors for ink-level control. Consumer Reports should know about this diabolical cartridge design feature. Tell me I`m wrong.
